Tackling Youth Unemployment Seminar – 4 July 2012

David Miliband spoke as a part of panel of expert speakers alongside Shiv Malik, journalist and co-author of Jilted Generation: How Britain Has Bankrupted Its Youth and Balbir Chatrik, Director of Policy and Participation at the Centrepoint charity in central London on Wednesday 4 July.

With over a million 18-24 year olds currently out of work, the seminar asked why young people have been so hit so hard by the recession and why it is that youth unemployment started rising before the financial crash. The seminar focused on what policies are best able to improve young people’s prospects, both today and in the future.

TUC Deputy General Secretary Frances O’ Grady chaired the event and TUC Head of Economic and Social Affairs Nicola Smith presented findings from the recent TUC report on youth unemployment, Generation Lost.
